Until the “Light For All” project came along, the inhabitants of Ponta Negra, Brazil, had always lived without electricity. The director Vinícius Girnys spent six years among them. A gentle yet searing portrait of a changing village where the arrival of electricity and tourism enhance the deconstruction of an idealized paradise.

Biography
Vinícius Girnys is a 34-year-old film director. His short films have been at various international festivals. "Samuel and the Light" is his first feature film. It premiered in April 2023 at Visions du Réel, in May at Hot Docs and in June at FICG, where the film received the FEISAL Award for Best Film and the Best Ibero-American Documentary Feature Award, which qualified the film for the Oscars 2024 in the Best Documentary Feature category.
