Synopsis:
The Director was just eight years old when his father’s body was found on a beach. His mother, a psychiatrist, decided an autopsy was unnecessary, even though his father had been depressed and had psychiatric medication among his belongings. Thirty years later, equipped with a box filled with his belongings, Juan Hoppe begins piecing his father’s life together. The filmmaker tries to find out what happened, who his father was and how his mother arrived at her decision.

Biography
Juan Ignacio Fernández Hoppe (1981) is a Uruguayan documentary filmmaker. With a degree in Communication Sciences, his first short and medium-length films are: “Cococho” (2003), “Talitha Koum” (2004), “Hijo” (2005), “Bichito de luz” (2005), and “La mudanza” (2007).
In 2012 he released his first feature film “Las flores de mi familia”, selected in festivals in Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Germany, Spain, Greece, Russia, Switzerland, among others. Awarded Best Latin American Film at FIDOCS, Santiago de Chile. “El retrato de mi padre” (2022) is his second feature film.
